      – Gary Candlish, Director

      Our History &
      Vision

In the heart of Ashdown Care lies a story of passion, commitment, and family values. Founded over three decades ago by nursing professionals Gary and Linda Candlish, the organization embodies a dedication to compassionate care.

Gary’s journey began at Prudhoe Hospital and later at Earls House Hospital, where his path intertwined with Linda’s. Dissatisfied with existing standards, the couple bravely left their jobs to transform the landscape of care in the northeast.

Their quest for change started by reintegrating service users from hospitals to communities for a better quality of life. Living alongside these individuals, they fostered incredible outcomes, gradually expanding their reputation and team.

Today, Ashdown Care stands strong with over 200 devoted staff across Gateshead, South Tyneside, and Northumberland. Gary and Linda’s children, Naomi and Myles, now integral to the company, echo the same fervour for elevating lives.

In 2022, a dream came to life with the establishment of a children’s home. Achieving an outstanding rating, it marked another milestone in their commitment to lifelong care.
Their approach revolves around more than just care—it’s about empowerment. Ashdown Care nurtures an environment where residents flourish, some having called it home for over three decades. Their seamless transition model from childhood to adulthood emphasizes familiarity and comfort.

This journey isn’t just about the residents; it’s about continuous improvement. Positive behaviour support, personalized care plans, and a team committed to growth define their ethos.
At Ashdown Care, the vision is simple yet profound: empower individuals to lead the lives they desire. Rooted in stability, their commitment to fostering independence and brighter futures remains unwavering.

It’s a journey fuelled by empathy, a promise of lifelong support, and an unwavering dedication to enhancing lives – one day at a time.
