Following completion of my Secondary school education at St Wilfrid’s Comprehensive School in South Shields in 1985, I worked in various positions within the manufacturing industry until being made redundant in 1991. It was then I decided I would like to work with people. I enrolled on a Higher Education foundation course in Humanities at South Tyneside College and 6 weeks later ended up working on a voluntary basis with young offenders which I did for 5 years. Upon completion of my HEFC course I gained a place at Sunderland University on a Social Work Diploma course and participated in a community work placement with a local supported housing association. I ended up working for the local housing association in supported housing and complex needs for 11 years, starting off as a sessional hostel worker and working my way up to a Managerial position within the company. I enrolled on and completed a Leadership and Management Award in 2012 with a view to moving into Residential Care Management. I was offered and accepted a position with Ashdown Care in June 2014 to manage a new service provision at Denmark St.
Ashdown Care has come along way over the last 2 years and has accrued another 2 services offering support to service users with learning disabilities through Independent Supported Living.
I have been with my partner for 30 years, who is also a Manager for Ashdown Care. We have one son who also works for Ashdown Care and we have recently become grandparents for the first time. I love travelling abroad and seeing new places, I am a football fan and enjoy watching my Favourite North East football team play.
