Service users have the opportunity if they so wish to entertain visitors/guests in their own privacy, either in the lounge or their own bedroom.
Ravenscroft is situated on the eastern side of Old Durham Road, adjacent to West View. It is less than half a kilometre away from local amenities at Wrekenton and approximately five kilometres away from Gateshead Town Centre. It is located on the main bus route, which links up with the Metro services in Gateshead.
Ravenscroft can provide residential learning disabilities care in Gateshead for seven people. All bedrooms are single rooms all of which meet the size requirements of the Care Standards Act. The majority have french windows looking onto the garden area to enable easy access for service users. The garden is enclosed by a wooden fence to ensure privacy and safety for the service users
Access into the home is by doors on the side of the home with a ramp for clients who use wheelchairs. The staff to service user ratio is very high which meets the needs of the individual.
Ravenscroft Home Staff
The Registered Manager has completed Registered Managers Award 2005 & the equivalent level in care. The manager has worked for Ashdown Care, providing individuals with Learning disabilities care in Gateshead, since 1995. The Proprietor is a First level nurse with a Certificate in Education and a Diploma in Management qualification.
The home employs 16 staff age ranging from 18 years to 53 years from a variety of backgrounds. We are also an approved Learning Environment for young apprentices. Several employees have transferred from homes within the Company to work with this particular group of service users.

There is plenty of entertainment with trips to the Zoo, the seaside, the park, theatre and pantomimes. “My daughter Gillian lives at Eastbourne, and after living in different places this is the only one she has settled in and is really happy, which I think is down to the fantastic job the staff do. Gillian is well cared for and I think she is a little spoiled. Every time I visit, Gillian is always happy and the rest of the lads are happy too, like one big happy family. We are always made welcome by the staff, offering us cups of tea and biscuits and taking the time to sit and talk to us. Eastbourne is a very homely place and we are always invited to all the activities that take place. I couldn't ask for a better place for Gillian to live.”
The opinion of Ravenscroft has been well discussed and I wanted you to know that the atmosphere of the home is lovely, comfortable, friendly and welcoming. It is recognised that this is a place of work but that it does not appear so, it feels like home. We have been touched by the genuine bereavement staff felt for the loss of both service users and you should be recommended as an example of what care is.

I would say that the management and staff are completely approachable and sympathetic with a positive 'can do' behaviour towards any and all problems that have been encountered in our case
